How to Spot a Resealed Booster Box Before You Buy

As sealed Pokémon product has climbed in value, so has the incentive for bad actors to open a box, pull the best packs, reseal it, and sell it as untouched. It's a real risk in the secondary market — here's what to actually check before you buy.

Check the shrink wrap

• Factory shrink wrap is tight, seamless, and has a consistent sheen across the whole box — look for bubbling, looseness, or a wrap that looks slightly oversized.
• Genuine factory wrap usually has a visible seam running down the back or side, in a consistent spot for that product line — resealed wrap often has the seam in the wrong place or none at all.

Look at the factory seals and flaps

• Most manufacturers use tamper-evident tape or seals in specific, consistent spots on the box. Learn what the real one looks like for the specific product before you buy.
• Check that box flaps haven't been re-glued — uneven glue lines or slightly bent flaps are a warning sign.

Weight is one of the best tells

Booster boxes have a fairly consistent, known weight for a given product. A box that feels noticeably light for its type is worth extra scrutiny — some resellers weigh boxes to spot-check for missing packs before listing them for sale.
